About
I am a nurse by background, having worked within the coronary care setting and working my way from junior staff nurse to Senior Nurse. I gained my first degree from the Open University (Social Sciences) in 1996 and my MSc ( Nursing) also through distance learning from Manchester University in 2002.
Whilst I developed my experience as a nurse I also began to teach for the Open University in a range of health/public health subjects.
I transitioned from clinical nursing into nurse education in 2002taking on a Senior Lecturer role in Pre-Reg Nurse education. Having taken on teaching and Coordinating roles I began to develop my sociological/psychological interests in Loss and bereavement , Leadership development, Change Management , Gender/Body studies and Health Sociology for healthcare professionals.
In 2009 I moved to an inner city university in order to focus my teaching and research interests. Currently I am engaged in doctoral study looking at emotional intelligence , knowledge construction and leadership growth in student nurses.
Currently co-authoring an Introductory text on Sociology and Social Policy and I am in early discussions with publishers with a view to a text on leadership development in healthcare settings.
