About

After completing my BA in History (UCL, UK) and MA in Politics (Newcastle upon Tyne, UK) I worked for some years for a youth charity before returning to the academia to undertake my PhD exploring youth culture and the politics of youth in 1960s Cuba (Wolverhampton, UK) which I completed in 2007.

I worked for several years as a Visiting Lecturer in history and politics at the University of Wolverhampton, where I was appointed in 2010 as Early Career Researcher at the Centre for Transnational and Transcultural Research.  I am also a member of the Cuba Research Forum based at the University of Nottingham, UK and University of Havana, Cuba. I take a professional interest in post graduate development and have conducted training sessions for doctoral students at the University of Wolverhampton and the Universidad de Complutense, Madrid. I currently lecture at the Department of Social Sciences at Birmingham City University.

My research interests lie in the cultural and political history of the Cuban revolution.  Further to my doctoral thesis, I am working on a monograph on youth in Cuba in the 1960s.  I take an interdisciplinary approach and use both archival sources and interviews as my evidence base.  I have recently participated in international conferences at the University of Nottingham, UK, University of Illinois, USA, and City University of New York, USA.
